Home visiting is the name given to services that focus on the healthy development of infants, toddlers, and small children. As the name suggests, all services take place in the child's home or a familiar place where parents and children feel comfortable, rather than in an office or community center. The main goal of home visiting services is to support parents and caregivers with information, activities, and resources that help give their children a good start; physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

Recent research has proven that the brain develops more rapidly between birth and three years of age than at any other time in life. A child’s relationships and experiences during this time build the foundation for all future learning, even before his or her memory has been fully developed. Because parents and caregivers are the earliest and most important teachers in a child’s life, having the right information to support a child’s developmental progress is essential. Studies have shown that providing home visiting services to families has a positive impact on children’s academic achievement later on when they begin school.

Home Visiting services are made for you and your family. Every family has unique circumstances, beliefs, cultures, routines, challenges, and goals. Because the immediate family is the most important influence in a child's life, we work with you toward what is important to you for your child. Staff with experience in the area of child development will:
    • Schedule visits that are at a convenient time and place for you
    • Bring information in response to your questions or needs
    • Bring age-appropriate activities and materials for you and your child
    • Conduct developmental screenings and assessments
    • Share what you can expect your child to be doing at each stage of development
    • Encourage and support you as a parent and as your child's most important teacher
    • Connect you to needed resources and services in the community
